Triathlon for beginner

Thinking of trying out triathlon event? Thinking of testing your body to take on three different sport fitness in one session? Bore in just running or cycling? Then you may want to try out on triathlon event.

As a freshman or beginner into triathlon, my suggestion is not to go all way out. Can try out freshman or discovery category to have a feel of doing three sports in one session and to gain your confidence level before going to next level. The worry portion is at the swim phase as it is swimming in the sea. However, not to worry that you need to swim in front crawl/ fish style, you can actual swim in any style to your comfort level. For me, I swim in frog style/ breast stroke.

I am one that did Freshman/Discovery category. After one attempt, I upgraded to sprint category and was stuck in this category for almost two years before I have the courage to challenge my body to take on Standard/Olympic Distance category.

This article/webpage provide some basic information on what to look out for a Tri suit.

Normally we don't use bicycle shorts for Triathlon event, as bicycle short padding is thicker. Tri suit/short padding is thinner as we need to swim. Thick padding means will absorb more water during swimming. I have see people, may be beginner, use cycling short. When they get out from sea, you will see his short dropping soon due to the padding has too much water...🤣

The below is a website comparing different brands for triathlon suit.  Is a good reference for beginner to know a bit more.

Base on my knowledge, Singapore has three triathlon event organizers: (1) Metasprint series; (2) Tri-Factor series; and (3) Singapore International Triathlon. However, Metasprint do not have Standard/Olympic Distance category.

North East PAssion run 2014 race pack

Have signed up this 14km run organised by PA and Pasir Ris Punggol.  This my first long distance after 7 years.  Don't know if I can keep running .....
PA run seems to be always worth it as the price is low and runner's entitlements are good.

2XU Compression Run 2014 on 2 Mar

This was our 2nd 2XU Compression run experience.  Our first exposure is last year and that was our 1st run event at 5km.  This year we upgraded to 10km.  The start and end point was near to the Nicoll Highway MRT station.  The route was ok as there was no slope to overcome :).
This time round, I managed to rode in my cousin and it was his first event run as well.

He told us that he may not run throughout, but he did and ran faster than us. Our finished timing was at 1 hr 5 min. His was 57 min.

Using my new Garmin Forerunner 220 which I just bought it 2 days ago at IT Fair 2014 (Mar).

Finished post....

A photo opportunity with Mok Ying Ren (Singapore runner)

During the runner, not able to locate Running Shots photographer, but manage to find our picture from Finisherpix.

Monster on the run.....

Skins A400 half tights

Finally got this Skins A400 half tights, size M, Black/Charcoal.  This is my 2nd tights.  Have bought this from Chain Reaction Cycles (www.ChainReactionCycles.com) on 27 Dec 2013 during the Sale session.  Bought it at SGD $62 after discount, shipment fee SGD $13, total $75.  I am lucky to get at such cheap price as I saw from Running Lab is selling at $110.  Received it on 8 Jan 2014.

Only observation on the tights is a bit thin (compare to my current Nike tights) and seem to be able to see through.  Will try out soon over the weekend during my usual running.
